1. How does Invisalign work?
Invisalign is designed to move teeth incrementally to realign them. Using virtually invisible aligners made from a special thermoplastic material, your orthodontist will prescribe a treatment plan customized for you. Using a succession of aligners, your teeth will progressively move into the proper positioning. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign aligners can be removed for eating and brushing your teeth. There are no metal brackets or wires involved.
2. How long does treatment take?
Treatment length differs from patient to patient, but the average treatment length for adults is 12 months. Aligners work best when worn between 20 to 22 hours per day, and are only removed for eating and oral hygiene.
3. Are Invisalign aligners approved by the FDA?
Invisalign aligners are classified as Class II medical devices by the FDA, and Align Technology, Inc. has been selling them since 1998.
4. How do I clean the aligners?
Invisalign recommends cleaning them with the Invisalign Cleaning System, but you can also brush them with a toothbrush and rinse them in lukewarm water.
5. Will my insurance cover Invisalign?
You will need to have your orthodontist in Fairview NC check with your insurance company to see if you are covered. Generally, Invisalign is covered the same as conventional braces.
